Paperless Case Use - Wireless Deployment

I recently had the joy of deploying a new Meraki wireless network at a local school. I knew starting out that I needed a good floor plan for the Meraki Dashboard, and I might as well start paperless for the deployment. We'll start with the apps used in this article:

Evernote - Free, but I do recommend upgrading to the Premium Edition, first month free.
Skitch - Free
JotNot Scanner Pro - $0.99

Step 1

This usually the hardest, find a good floor plan of the building. This deployment wasn't so hard. When they renovated the school a few years ago, they kept a set of blueprints.

Step 2

Take a picture of the floor plan using JotNot Scanner Pro. Here is the original photo I took:

JotNot was then able to clean it up, which resulted in the photo below, and export it to Evernote.

 Step 3

Cleanup photo in Skitch. Take off the unnecessary lines and get a good floor plan.

Step 4

Using Skitch, take notes accordingly. I took the following notes with my finger, but a good stylus would be perfect for this.

Step 5

Translate to functional documents on your desktop app of choice. I was able to use the cleaned up *.jpg as my foundation and add notes accordingly.
